Sardar Ballab Bhai National Institute of Technology,Surat(SVNIT) was established in June 1961 and is regarded to be a Regional engineering college(REC) .SVNIT is a joint venture of Government of India and Government of Gujarat. Recently it has acquired the status of a deemed university and is changed into National Institute of Technology. The college campus is spread over 100 hectares of land with seven hostels accommodating 990 students.
The total number of seats are 426 with 50% of the seats being reserved for students of Gujratand the rest being reserved for students of other states.

Courses in the post graduate level It conducts M. Tech. in Structural Engineering. The course is approved by AICTE(All India Council of Technical Education). NBA, New Delhi has accredited it with grade A. The department also conducts M.Tech in Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering and it has been approved by AICTE . Department of Applied Sciences and Technology.

Chemical Engineering: The department was established in 1995 with state of the art infra structure and modern equipments with lucrative placements.
Civil Engineering: This department offers undergraduate courses in the following sectors:

The department also provides P h. d in areas of Environmental Engineering,Transportation Engineering,etc.
Computer Engineering Department: This department was established in 1989 and provide under graduate courses in Computer Engineering with state of the art infrastructure.
Department of Electrical Engineering: This department offers undergraduate BE,B. Tech course with well equipped laboratories. Department of Electronics Engineering: This department was founded in 1982 equipped with the state of art infrastructure.
Mechanical Engineering Department: This department was established in 1961 offers undergraduate course,2 Post graduate courses and a wide array of research facilities. The department has equipments like Wind Tunnel,CNC Machines and boasts of an experienced faculty. The department also provides under graduate courses in Production Engineering.
Facilities: SNVT provides hostel facilities,gymnasiums,library, on campus internet and intranet connections,bus facilities.
Admission procedure: Admissions to SVNIT Surat ( deemed university)are granted on the basis of ranks in the All India Engineering,Pharmacy,Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by CBSE for MHRD, Government of India. The website www.aieee.nic.in. can provide information on the examination.
Admission to Post Graduate course: The candidates must have minimum 60 percent marks or an equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average in the B.E./B. Tech. or equivalent examination (55 percent for SC/ST category) in the specific branch of Engineering.
For the PG Pro gramme in Town and Regional Planning of the Civil Engineering Department. the candidates with B.E./B. Tech. degree in Civil Engineering or Bachelors degree in Architecture securing at least 60 percent of the marks are eligible for admission. For the PG courses in Mechanical Engineering, the candidates with B.E./B. Tech in Production/Production & Industrial Engineering are eligible for admission.
